What is Vitamin D?
Vitamin D regulates the absorption of calcium and phosphorus minerals, their level in the blood and their administration to bone tissue and teeth. Together with vitamin A and calcium or phosphorus, it protects the body from colds, diabetes, eye and skin diseases. Vitamin D also prevents tooth decay and gum disease, fights osteoporosis and accelerates fracture healing.
Determination of the level of vitamin D is used for the diagnosis of disorders of calcium metabolism (rickets, pregnancy, nutritional and digestive disorders, hyperparathyroidism, osteoporosis).
Symptoms of vitamin D deficiency:
- loss of appetite
- insomnia
- burning sensation in the mouth and throat
- weight loss
- visual impairment
